Lacrosse stick help, I cant throw!?

I just got a new brine attack stick for lacrosse today and i am unable to throw the ball. I think it is because there is a shoe string going across it and it will stop at that string, then fall out when i throw it rather than slipping off of the top of the stick like normal. do I need to break it in or what?
