Do you need to use a mouse in conjunction with the Logitech G13 gaming pad?

I play only FPS games and was wondering if you needed to use a mouse in conjunction with the g13 gaming pad? It seems that it would be hard to aim and shoot and drive with your left thumb opposed to your right hand mouse.
