Boston vs. NY?

I'm going to be applying for colleges within the year, and I was wondering what Boston is like compared to New York for a college student. I'm a native New Yorker - lived an hour away from the city my entire life - and I absolutely love it. The feel of the city in general is amazing, and I'm curious if Boston is anything like that as well. Any opinions would be appreciated. :]
